Well it’s all set I and in early October I will be off to War. No not any of the wars that are taking place in the middle east but to the Great Western War. The Great Western War is an SCA event that has be held every October in Chino, California and this year marks their tenth anniversary.

I was planing to go last year but due to reasons beyond my control I ended up unable to attend. I have been to a couple of small SCA day events and a Ren fair, but this will be the first time that I have ever been to an event long term. So, I need to get together some period clothing as anyone attending must dress to the period. I have a few things that I bought for last year but, I never finished my outfits. The main downside to shopping for period clothing is not finding it online, that’s easy, but finding it in my size, at six foot four it get difficult to even find normal clothing that will fit. (I would make it myself but I cant sew worth a damm.) The hardest part will be the shoes not many places make period shoe in a size sixteen.

At the war there are many events from archery to crafts. Of course the main events are the battles and they get pretty creative with them too. The have a couple of “ship” battles, a landing, town, and castle assault. SCA fighting is not pretend it can get very intense. I did some one on one combat with some friends using borrowed armor a couple of times and even thou I had on plate mail and the “swords” are made of rattan I ended up getting some good bruises.

So come October its off to war, I plan on taking my camera and getting lots of pictures, I’ll post some after I get back.
