In the world of Claymore near invulnerable creatures called Yoma hunt the local towns folk and eat them alive. This wouldn’t be so bad if the Yoma would like any other wild animal you could easily just avoid their territories or build large walls to keep them out, but Yomas are different they are no wild animal they’re as smart as any human. Also they have another trick up there sleeves they can take on the appearance of humans and if they eat your brains they can absorbed your memories and mannerisms. But all is not lost there are people who can tell the difference between humans and Yomas in human guise, The Claymores.

Claymores don’t call themselves that it just a name other have put on them, most likely because of that big ass sword they carry around and handle like it was made of paper. There is another name that the people call these Yoma hunters “silver eyed witches” for all the Claymores have silver eyes, that turn to gold when the fight, and are female (and all quite svelte as well.) The Claymores also are no longer quite human but have become part yoma, taking a page from the yoma playbook. This has giving them great strength and other powers but they are also quite feared even buy the people that they are helping, and buy the looks of things all that power as other drawbacks as well.

In a small village a yoma had been hard at work eating the local population so the town leader has sent for a Claymore to deal with it this has been meet with mixed feelings by the rest of the town but young Raki is not afraid of the new guest. Seeing her as just like any other woman albeit on that has come to deal withe the monster that killed his parents while he hid with older brother. The girl is very stand offish even refusing to tell Raki her name. After dealing with the yoma, that was trying to eat Raki, she leaves town to go deal with her next assignment with out so much as a good-bye. The townsfolk don’t deal so well with Raki survival throwing him out of town on the off chance that he might become a yoma.Nearly dying in the desert Raki awakens in a inn to be told that his life was saved by a Claymore, he quickly runs after her to thank her for once again saving his life. Only to end up as the bait in the trap for the Claymore that was set by another yoma. After once again saving Raki’s life (not because she want to but because it was the easiest way to deal with the yoma.) The Claymore takes Raki on as her traveling companion and cook, for reasons know only to her and we finely find out here name Clare.

Over all I liked Claymore a lot, though part of the plot of this episode I saw coming from a mile off, it is definitely on my watch list. While it could easily fall into the monster of the week type of show there seem to deeper a deeper plot line judging by the opening credits. The animation is smooth and the art style is interesting and very different that I have watched of late. Story alone would get me to watch Claymore, the art style and action only add to the overall package (and it doesn’t hurt that Clare is hot and runs around in skin tight clothing.) I think it is going to be a interesting ride as we find out more about Clare’s past and just what are the downsides to being half yoma.
