Poor Simon all he can do each day is dig holes every day to expand his underground village. As his villages best digger the mayor treats him to pork cutlets, but he does not dig for the reward or for the village he is digging for treasure. One day he finds some a small glowing drill looking object. While Kamina the self appointed leader of the village gang dreams of the surface only to have his attempt to bust through the ceiling of the village stopped hard in its track buy the village mayor. While everyone in the village lives every day in fear that the next big earthquake will bring the village crashing down around their ears.
Simon continues to dig and soon find a large metal face while getting Kamina to show him what he had found a giant faced monster comes crashing through the ceiling of the village bent on mayham and distruction. Soon they also have another guest from the surface by a girl with a large gun and “huge tracks of land” who is hunting the giant monster. Well things from there get pretty pradictable our gang of three take a few pot shot and try to make it to the metal face that Simon found, at which point the little drill key that he found starts glowing. Soon Simon is piloting the face mech and soon defeated the giant while escaping to the surface at the same time.

Gurren Lagann look to be your tipical giant robot series but it is done by Studio Gainax so it is done well. I like the mech designs, it’s a little differnt from you average show, each mech is basicly a very large face with arms and legs attached at what would be the neck and ears. It will be intersting to see where Simon will lead us but knowing Sudio Gainax it is going to be a wild ride.Garren Lagann Offical site.
