Project Umetsu’s Fantasy Girl.

21 April, 2007 (15:09) | Figures, Model Making, Umetsu's Girl

Umetsu’s Fantasy Girl is from the anime Robot Carnival, a movie that was a collection of robot themed shorts. Most of the segments were without dialog just visuals set to music akin to Disney’s Fantasia.

The Fantasy Girl is from the segment Presence.

See here or here for more details.

I picked up the kit several years back on a whim and now that the Gundam is to a point were I am waiting on supplies go on I decided to start working on it. She is what a lot of people call a ‘Garage Kit‘ of resin kit. As such she need a bit more work then your average plastic model kit. For example there is a good sized hole, cause by air in the mold, on her chin. Other parts have a lot of ‘flash’, resin that squeezed between mold halves, that will need to be removed. She is also kind of rough in places.

She comes in three major pieces; body, skirt/petticoat, and legs, there are also some other minor pieces; a couple of ribbon and stars. I haven’t yet decided if I am going to have to use pins to hold the major parts together as there are pretty large lugs that align the parts. In fact all the pictures of her just dry fitted together and balanced on the base. She will however need to be fixed to the base somehow. What I am thinking of doing instead of permanent pins is using strong magnets like I have seen one other guy do. I have seen some really strong ones at ThinkGeek, and I figure that one in each foot and matching ones in the base should be enough to hold her on while still being removable if I need to pack her up in the future.
