Haruhi Suzumiya Kit

4 May, 2007 (17:21) | Figures, Haruhi Suzumiya Bunny, Model Making

Well that mail came today with more modeling supplies and another kit for me to work on but I think I may have bit off more than I can chew with my choice of a second figure kit.

There are a whole lot of parts, a big bunch of parts, more than just a few parts, did I mention there are a lot of parts?? I think there are eight or nine peaces that make up the hair alone. Then there is the guitar that is almost a second kit itself. It is definitely more complicated then Umetsu’s Girl and its going to be a lot more work on the construction, though I have not seen as many pinholes yet. But, I think it is going to be a bit easier on the painting. That’s one advantage to having all those parts you can paint them with out having to do so much masking. The biggest problems that I can see now is one trying to figure out how everything goes together as the instructions are very minimal (and in Japanese) and two trying to figure out on some pieces where the flash ends and the part begins.I have seen pics of this kit all over the ‘net but what got me inspired to built it was the in-progress and final pics over at Gamera Baenre’s page. He does some very nice work indeed, and if I can get something half as good done I think I will be doing OK.

Oops forgot to included a picture of what the kit looks like completed. Unlike the other kits there is no box art so I present a random web image.

Well it has a lot of parts for a figure kit, but it has a lot fewer parts then the RX78-GP02A that I am also working on.

It’s a fairly easy kit to put together 9try putting a Resin Mecha kit together - the term “lots of parts” has a whole new meaning…) I had a lot of fun building my two :) I only found pinhole problems on the left shoulder and neck. Is this an original or recast? The ones I worked on were recasts… but I’m getting a couple of originals this month. So I’m going to be building at least one more if not two.

Its a recast that I picked up from HobbyFan. I have only found one pinhole so far, in the left arm, which considering how many pinholes that are in the other kit I am working on (which is an original, thou US made and yellow resin to boot) is pretty damn good.

The only problems I have found so far is on the cuffs the resin is so thin that is has ripped in one place and one the right wrist had a lot of flash on it that I had to basically reshape the key that fits into the cuff and hand. I haven’t decided how to handle the cuff problem, may have to create new ones out of Super Sculpey if I cant figure out how build back the missing resin.

I would recommend using some epoxy putty over the existing part and building it back up. I’ve worked with some thinly casted parts and I just ended up having to bulk up the are with epoxy putty and everything was fine.
