Claymore Episode 7 & 8

30 May, 2007 (18:39) | Anime, Reviews

Well Teresa and Clare are on the lamb from the rest of the organization all because Teresa wouldn’t die like a good little girl. The organization has gotten number 2-5 together , seen that Claymores are ranked based on their strength, with our girl Teresa being number 1. (Which kind of eliminates most of The Prisoner jokes I could make. ) Well number 4-5 aren’t too happy that there is a new number two as that knocks them down a place in the standings and to top it off number 2 is just a young rookie that just got her symbol.

Meanwhile Teresa and Clare have come to the next village only to find a Yoma causing havoc. Teresa quickly takes care of the village’s little problem but instead of getting normal ‘thanks for the help, don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out’ greeting that they were expecting. The villagers greet Teresa as a savior and put them up in the best inn in town. Of course the next morning the gang of four show up and that’s then end to the quite village live and a Claymore fight can do quite a bit of damage to the woodwork… and stonework and roadwork and bridges for that matter.

Well after a bit Teresa has taken all of the gang of four down without killing anyone and calmly walks out of town. Well this defeat by ’someone who’s broken the rules’ doesn’t go over too will with number 2. She goes a bit on the crazy side, powers up and chases after Teresa, it seems that mental stability is not high on the list of qualifications to become a Claymore. After catching up with Teresa and Clare number 2 releases even more of her power and Teresa warns her about going to far and being unable to change back. After number 2 goes on another rant about how Teresa is the evil one, Teresa finally releases some of her yoma power, but only enough to change her eyes yellow. But when Teresa has number 2 on her knees unable to change back number 2 pulls a bit of dirty pool and takes our girl Teresa out. But at this point number 2 really has pulled to much of her power and transforms. Not into a yoma however but an Awakened One. This is not a good thing, and the rest of the gang of four try to take her out but it easily defeats them all. The Awakened One then wonders off into the wild muttering something about being hungry and guts, leaving Clare crying over Teresa’s head.

Another good pair of episodes that bring Teresa’s story to an end. The preview for the next episode looks like it is going to be the start of another backstory arc, I didn’t see Maki anywhere in the teasers at least. So it look like Clare’s motivation to become a Claymore is revenge on the Awakened One that took Teresa’s head. This may not have been a good idea as it appears that going up against a Awakened One without some serious back up is not conducive to a long life. Well be seeing you. (Ha, I did get a Prisoner joke in.)

So was I, it was a real punch to the guts. Definitely one of those Holy S*** moments. Too bad we never got to see just how powerful Teresa could be if she released most of her yoma power.
