Shining Wind Clalaclan Figure Review

18 November, 2007 (00:20) | Figures, Reviews

Clanclan_05

Picked up this figure of Clanclan from Shining Wind, a Japanese RPG, kind of on a whim after seeing preview picks on dannychoo.com. Wasn’t till later that I found out that the the Character Designer for the game was Tony Taka, or more commonly know on the interweb as T2 Art Works. I have always liked his character designs and have a couple of cutouts form his 2005 calender hanging on my wall. So it was very nice to be able to see one of his girls make it to 3D.

Now I have never played Shining Wind so I can’t say how well the translation from game to figure went but what I can say is that the figure does not disappoint. The pose is very dynamic and works well with with and with out the shield in place. The dress is painted with almost pearlescent paint that my photos do not due justice. The shading work is nicely done and there are no real obvious seams and only minor mold lines issues. My only real issues that I have with her are that the shield has a single center handle and the base. While most people would not have any issues with the handle on the shield, but as a former SCA geek I know for a fact there is no way your going to be able to hold a big ass shield like with only one handle. Now as well done as the rest of the figure is the base looks like a freaking Tupperware lid, and leaves an overall unfinished look to the final presentation. I might end up making a new base for her maybe some thing out of wood a nice walnut maybe. Now there was some minor paint transfer from the hem of the shirt coming in contact with the skirt but because she comes in three pieces (legs, skirt, body) and I did remove and replace the skirt a couple of times so I guess it is to be expected.
