Mac on Order
Well went and ordered my Mac last night should be here in the next day or so as I paid for the upgraded shipping. I went with the base model though I think I will add a couple of gigs more of RAM to it pretty quick. That is the major complaint that I have will Apple is the price of some of the upgrades is a lot higher then it should be. Take the RAM for example the base configuration comes with 2 Gigs, the upgrade to 4 gigs runs $500 dollars and for 16 gigs runs $4,300. Now if I buy the Mac compatible over at Ramjet.com I can get the 2 extra gigs for $139 or the full 16 gigs for $1,100 without shipping. Most likely the stuff Apple installs may be a more name brand RAM so will cost a little more but we’re talking 3 to 4 times greater cost to have Apple preinstall it. I am just not convinced that Apple’s RAM is that much better then the stuff I could buy in the store, and with Apple’s buying power I am sure they get a lot better prices then I can. Now on other upgrades Apple is not too out of line a 1TB hard drive Apple’s upgrade price $400 street price $359, a bit stiff but not outrageous. If Apple’s price were a bit more reasonable I would have had them do the upgrade, but I have messed around in the inside of enough computers to handle a RAM upgrade and if it save me $300 buck all the better. To me it just seems that the Apple’s upgrades are more about padding Apple’s bottom the getting the costumer a better system.
