Lunar Eclipse
Well for those of us in the Americas there was a full eclipse of the Moon tonight. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to see it. For most of the day it was very cloudy where I live, but starting around 1600 the clouds started to pull back. Because, I live on the west coast I missed the first part as the moon was below the horizon until about 18:30 or so. The Eclipse reached totality at 19:01 and the sky was nice and clear, I got the camera out and took some test shots. My plan was to wait until 19:50 when the moon started to come out of totality and then take a series of photos every two minutes then combine them in Photoshop to create and nice progression of the moon getting brighter and brighter. Things didn’t work however, I started at 19:50 but by 20:06 the clouds had rolled back in and the moon disappeared. Will have to try again when the next one rolls around, the downside is that isn’t until December 21st 2010. That one is going to be even better the this one with totality lasting almost and hour and fifteen minutes.

I’m in Nor Cal myself and by the way the day started I’m lucky I got to see any of it. I just might have to plan to head to a desert region for the 2010 one.

I caught a little bit of it myself around 6:50PST, yes it got very cloudy (I’m in S. California) and I gave up. But it was cool.
