GE Now Printing LEDs
GE has announced that that the have been able to produce OLEDs (Organic Light Emitting Diode) in a roll to roll printing process. GE has been trying to do this for the past four or five years, and while they have known it was technology possible, they haven’t been able to do it tell now. Being able to print a display will greatly increases the production speed and efficiency and there by greatly lowering the cost. GE says that the process should be ready for prime time in about two years. OLED use a lot less power then current LED displays but up to now they have mainly been used in cell phones and other small screens as the costs were higher then standard displays. So you want a laptop with a 21inch screen and 6hr batter live OLEDs are the way to go. The other great thing with OLEDs can be seen in the pic above, they can be made on a flexible medium. So in 10 years or so your laptop screen won’t fold up from over the keyboard but roll up for the back. The other use GE is looking at OLEDs for is lighting, tho that is some years off. via Ecogeek and GE press release.
