Custom DVD Covers

Well now that I got a compute that will handle photoshop with bogging down like a cub scout with a 100 pound pack it time to start making DVD cases again.

The downside to collecting Anime is that a long series can quickly take up a lot of shelf space if you are getting the single disc editions, for example Card Captor Sakura takes up almost a foot of shelf. It’s not quite so bad with the new season box set but I hate the cardboard digipacks. The solution Multi disk plastic cases. These case hold up to 12 discs in about an inch and a half or less of shelf. Now the problem is looking at the plain black cases. Enter the custom DVD case I first came across the whole Custom scene over at RixGraphic with some of the custom cases he made for the Star Trek TV box sets. He created the case art partly because like me he didn’t like the digipack cardboard cases, and because lets face it the box art for the Start Trek sets is plain at best and down right fugly at worse.

I created the case above for Chobits and now the plan is to work on a set of cases for Card Captor Sakura and Ikkitousen. Ikkitousen won’t be too hard its a single case with a narrow spine. CCS is going to be a bit more of a challenge with 18 discs the in the series I looking at doing a three case set with a single image spanning the spines of the three cases. It the first time I’ve tried doing a spanning spine we will have to see how things work out. So expect more updates in the near future.
