Sakura Con Report
This was the second time I’ve been to Sakura Con, the first being two years ago, and in just two years attendance has doubled to near 14,000 people. The drive up wasn’t too bad, except for that one part were I missed a turn and ended up lost in Portland, OR for about 5 minutes trying to figure out how to back on I-5. While we hit some rain and snow flurries overall the weather wasn’t too bad. The weather in Seattle however was down right cold and at one time there was snow. While I was expecting cold weather I anciently unpacked my jacket while rearranging my stuff and had a somewhat cold first day at the con until I bought a sweatshirt. You would think that with the weather being so cold it would slow down the Cosplayers but I saw more then one Yoko running around in a bikini top and short shorts how those girls did get frost bite I’ll never know.
Day One:
After regastration we caught the opening ceremonies which ended with The Slants providing the music to the opening video live. After a quick tour through the Dealer’s Room I was off to stand sit in line for The Slants / Scandal Concert. The concert was very good with Aron bounce in around the stage and climbing the speaker towers. Wasn’t really into Scandal and ended up leaving about half way thought their set. Not so much because I didn’t like their music but because I just can’t take standing up that long with my bad knees and I was really there to see The Slants. After that I hit the dealers room again and got the deal of the Con Hash.com was there and selling their Animation: Master program for $50 it normal price is $300. For that price you just get the DVD, no manual or anything but for that price whose complaning. After that it was tour of the anime rooms, did a little people watching then called it a night.
Day Two:
Spent most of my time in the Dealer’s room and hitting the Anime rooms. Did make it to one panel, a Q&A session with the creator of Karin (know a Chibi Vampire here in the states). The highlight of my day was I got to meet Phil Foglio the creator of Girl Genius. In the evening we went out for my Birthday dinner at Johnny Rockets.
Sunday had us driving back home, because the trip was last minute I wasn’t able to get the extra days off work. I am still trying to recover from the trip as I don’t really travel well. I tend to over stress while traveling and don’t sleep well in a strange bed.
