I was in the book store a few weeks back and picked up the first Vampire Hunter D novel. Up till now my only experence with D was the original 1985 anime movie. This is the book the original movie was base on, the second movie Bloodlust is based on book 3, so the plot and some of the encounters were familiar to me.

Of course with any book that has been turned in to a movie your going to get a lot more detail from the book. With the case of Vampire of Hunter D the details you miss in the film is a good bit of history on how the world that they live in came to be. With the rise of the Vampires after Mankind nearly wiped them selfs out and the use of advanced science the Vampires use to create some of the other monster that roam the countryside. We also get to see more of D’s power and abilities then in the movie. All in all I would have to say the book is a bit better then the movie, but the again they almost always are. So if you’ve seen the movie and liked it do yourself a favor and pick up the novel its a good read.
