The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is the film adaption of the comic by the same name. The basic concept behind The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, is what would happen if all charters from Victorian fiction existed in the same world. The League includes Allan Quatermain from “King Solomon’s Mines”, Captain Nemo from “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” The Invisible Man from “The Invisible Man”, Dorian Gray from “The Portrait of Dorian Gray”, Tom Sawyer from “Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn”, Dr. Jeckyll from “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”, and the Leagues sole female member Wilhelmina Harker from “Dracula”. The League is brought together by “M” to stop “The Fantom” from starting a global war with his advanced technology.

If all you are wanting from a movie is to sit back, munch your popcorn and oooh and ah over clearly CG special effects then this movie is for you. Other wise it is disappointing. The plot is just a way to go from one action sequence to another, with few half hearted charter development scenes throw in to pass the time. The movie is also full of plot holes you could drive a tank through. Like how the heck can a submarine as big as the Nautilus appears to be fit into the docks of the Tames let alone the canals of Venice. Then near the end of the film the Invisible Man get vary badly burned and yet durning the final scene he appears to be perfectly fine. The effects were also a mixed bag in the first time the Invisible Man appears and starts putting on the makeup so we can see his face is very well crafted and is visual stunning. Yet during the attack on The Fantom’s hide out the moving bombs were so cheesy you could almost see the wires. Overall I would have to say while it is not a bad film it is also not a good film, it’s ok if you got nothing else to watch.
