When night began to fall on Maker Faire there was a definite change. The night was pretty cold but it was easy to get warm. All you had to do was get near on of the fire sculptures.
This one is by a group named The Flaming Lotus Girls. They’re a artist group out of San Francisco and have had several work appear at Burning Man.
I can’t remember the artist’s name who did this one and the following piece. But, he was saying that most of the parts for his projects came from airplane junk yards. This one was made out of parts for a jet engine and couldn’t but used to it’s full potential because of the winds that night.
The next one is another that I forgot to get the name of, but is responsible for one of the funniest looks I got during the whole faire. Because of how quickly the flames would appear then die down, I switched the camera into burst mode. I have the Canon 20D dSLR and in bust mode it shoot at 5 frames per second and the sound it makes is not what you would expect out of a still camera. After I took the sequence below the guy standing next to me gave me this look like ‘what the heck was that’.
I plan on taking a little time this weekend to figure out how to turn the above sequence into a either a multi frame gif or maybe a short flash animation.
Tomorrow night Maker Faire Part Four: Robots and other weird stuff.
