The Andromeda Strain miniseries threw in all this extra wormhole/time travel stuff that totaly messed with the original plot/message. @WulfTheSaxon

A couple charters did change with the most notable being one of the scientist becoming female. With what I have been reading on the 'net though the new one will stray pretty darn far.
