Got a new DVD in the mail today, saw it cheap on Amazon and grabbed a copy. Better Living Through Circuitry is a 1999 documentary about the modern Rave and Techo/Electronic music culture. The film features interviews with BT, The Crystal Method, Electric Skychurch, Genesis P-Orridge, Frankie Bones, System 7, DJ Spooky, Moby, Roni Size, and Superstar DJ Keoki. There is also interviews the everyday rank and file of the Rave goers, and local police and paramedics. The DVD release extras include Extended interviews with The Crystal Method, Roni Size and others, along with a new interview with DJ Dan. There is also two computer animation reels from Nighttribe and OVT.

I first saw Better Living… back in 2002 on I think HBO or maybe it was Showtime. Any way it was my first real indepth exposure to Rave/Electronic music. It was what turned me on to Electric Skychurch, and The Crystal Method. I live in a very rural area and if it’s top 40 or Country and Western your not going to hear it on the radio. There is a bit of contrast with most of the interviews with the Artist mostly being the laid back talking about their music and how they got in the Rave party scene. While most of the rave goer interviews tend to be of the gushy fangirl variety. Better Living… is almost 10 year old now and starting to show it’s age a bit, but is still interesting.
