Well for my fellow Mac users out there that are trying to learn Japanese, you might want to check this out. The one man software house Think Mac’s iKana is a tool to help you learn the two Japanese syllabic scripts. iKana has four modes, Flash Card mode introduces the symbols both hiragana and katakana. Speed Recognition gives you a symbol and four choices pick the correct answer before times runs out. Totally commizdable you can select charter set, timer length and number of questions. Word Romanization help reinforce what you’ve learned so far by making you think in the other direction. Vocabulary Practice helps you move from sounds to words. iKana lets you add words to the dictionary so you can create you own vocabulary lists, a great way to help with your Japanese class. Also most all the function of the program can be controlled by the Apple Remote so you don’t even need to mess with the keyboard. When you got Kana down Think Mac will also help you learn Kanji with iKanji which in currently in beta, but should be out soon.
iKana sells for €12 ($19 US) and right now you can pre-order iKanji for €18 ($30 US). They also have a bundle deal where you can get both iKana and iKanji for €25 ($40 US).
