Yep that’s right folks the VCR is now [semi-]officially dead. JVC has stopped making standalone VCRs and has converted the assembly line into making camcorders. So once the warehouse inventory is depleted there will be no more. JVC will continue to make VCR/DVD combo units for at least the next few years, but I’m guessing that will only be for another 3-5 years then the VHS will be truly dead.
VCR tape trading was the way to get fansubs back when I was first getting into Anime. What I did was take a couple of tapes along with return postage and box them up, send them to a guy in Arizona who would make a copy of what I wanted. He would then box them back up and send them back to me. The whole process would take 2-4 weeks depending on how busy the guy was. I still have most of my fansub tapes sitting around. So goodbye VCR we hardly knew you.

Godspeed VCR, you were there for a while, and introduced us to the wonders of media…in our youth.
Yea the downside is I still have a bunch of stuff on VHS. A fter the last power outage my VCR stopped working and there isn’t no one in this town that fixes the darn things.
