It’s been a while since I last worked on the Weird Sound Generator project even though I had most of the item on hand to proceed. So I have been trying for the last couple of days to get the face plate prepped for electro etching.
After getting the face plate cut out of the bigger sheet I gave it a good polish be for using Press N Peel Blue (PNP) to transfer the design to the plate. Unfortunately the first attempt was a complete failure. I missed the part on the PNP site about the Brother laser printer not giving good results. And wouldn’t you know it the laser printer I have is a Brother.
So after a visit to my local copy shop to use one of their copier for the transfer I tried again, and got what you see below.

Yea not good looking at all I think that I did use enough heat. I followed the instructions and use the synthetic setting on the iron but I forget to take into account that those instructions are meant for using the PNP on copper clad which only have a very thin layer of copper on a fiberglass base not the 1/16″ thick brass plate that I’m using.
So for the third attempt I cranked the iron all the way up and spent a long time heating the plate up and got this.

Not perfect but I can live with it. But, you say what about the hole. Well they make a special goo you can paint on the board but I just pulled out some enamel paint and painted over the worst spots.

It don’t look to bad. For the edges I’m just going to tape over them with some good old black electrical tape. And, if all goes well I should have the plated etched by the end of the week. Wish me luck.
