On the requenmedtion from the guys on the Totally Rad Show I picked up the new 25th Anniversary edition of Lode Runner for the Xbox Live Arcade. After about 6 hours of game play over the last couple of weeks I can come to one simple conclusion, I suck at Lode Runner.
It can often take me 30 or more tries for me to pass a new level. In Hang On mode I was barely able to get a bronze medal on each level and haven’t been able to get anywhere close to a silver. The longest run in Journey mode from the start is level 2-4 or about 10 minutes of play. So what make it so hard for me? Well first off you can’t jump, so that took a while to get use to and I still mess up some times. Second if you goof up and die the whole level starts over, so even if you got all the gold and just need to get to the exit then die too bad you got to get all the gold again. The gun you have for blasting blocks to trap the baddies or get to a gold piece doesn’t fire when you pull the trigger but charges for a split second then fires and blocks are not destroyed when they get hit but shake for a split second then blow up. Which brings me to my final problem all ties go to the baddies. If I hit a block with my blaster and it hasn’t exploded yet if a baddie touches it that stops the block destruction and I most likely die.
So is this game for you, maybe. If you got the mad gamer skillz Lode Runner will be a breeze, and from the leaderboards there are a lot of people out there with teh mad skillz. So I would recommend try before you buy.
