Finally got around to do the figure shoot of Art Storm’s Juliona Trans from Masamune Shirow’s Wild Wet West GalGrease series. I did something a bit different this time as a bit of an experiment. I went with a black background and used the camera flash for most of the lighting. The only other light in the room was a 60 watt bulb on the other wall that gave me just enough light to see to frame my shots. Over all the experiment was ok. I would have been better off with a small spot lighting the figure instead of the flash as the lighting changes from one pic to the next a bit depending on how far I was from the subject. But, I don’t have a small enough light to get the effect I was looking for. So I think it turned out ok for the setup I was using.
The usual unpacking porn is also missing from the pics below, but is included in the flickr gallery. If you want one for your own, it look like she is still up for sell at HLJ, J-list, Kidnemo, and Hobby Search.
Some pics after the cut are slightly on the NSFW side.
Sculpt: Overall the sculpt is faithful to the original Shirow illustration. G.O did give her a bit more of a bust, but there shape is consistent with Shirow’s art style. The sculptor may have also increased the size of the already very phallic cigar she is smoking.
Production: Art Storms production of the figure is top rate with no obvious seams. The paint job very detailed with the clothing shaded nicely giving the leather a used and worn in look. The skin tone is even with subtle shading and a slightly glossy finish that captures the look of Shirow’s style. My only two complaints are that the hair color is flat and has very little if any shading, and the base rates high on the fugly scale. The base is a simple semi-clear plastic circle and in my opinion useless, I am displaying her with out it.
All in all I would have to give her a A-.

Not liking the sculpt man. The quality may be fine, but if the sculpt is not appealing, sort of defeats the whole point. The hair and the face are the most disappointing. Not a purchase from me.
Cool pose, a little too wild. I didn’t even knotice the hair til u mentioned it…yeah, it’s pretty bland. Guns look sweet, and LOL the cigar’s huge.
@Kevin Well it’s pretty much in Masamune Shirow’s style. He’s seems to be one of those artist that people either love or hate.
@Observer Extraordinaire Compared to a lot of the other lilos from Galgrease it’s pretty mild.
