WordPress 2.8

WordPress 2.8 has been officially released. I plan to upgrade as soon as the auto upgrader can figure out there is a new version. It’s weird my test site sees that there is an upgrade but the main site still hasn’t noticed. The auto upgrader is the one feature of WordPress that has made maintaing the site so much easier. Before the feature was added I often skipped one or two releases before installing the new versions as the upgrade often took a hour or more. Downloading the new version was simple and quick, so was the unzipping. But the uploading man that could take forever. For some reason my internet connection doesn’t like to do FTP uploads. Uploading WordPress to my server is guaranteed to have at least 3 dropped connections. Often I would have to reupload files as well as something went wrong in the transfer. But, now it just a simple click of a button and in about 1-2 minutes or less the site is upgraded. So much easier and safer too, ’cause now I always install every patch and bug fix. Which is the best way to keep any site secure.

You the reader should not notice any changes to the site at all, if all goes well. There may be a few glitches if there are incompatibilities with some of the plug-ins but it should be much of a problem. I tend to use fairly popular plug-ins. The main stream ones tend to stay on top of upcoming changes.
