
So most people assume that to control a synthesizer you need a keyboard. And while a keyboard is useful it is not exactly necessary. I’ve seen video of large modular synths that once patched together play themselves.
One way to control a synth is using a sequencer to create a repeating pattern of notes. But don’t think that once you set up the sequencer you are stuck with that pattern. As the video below shows you can add a second sequencer, patch them together and do all sorts of neat on the fly changes to the patter. The only downside I see with his patictural setup is that the Q960 sequencers that he is using run $800 a piece.
