In a blatant rip off of the great +Andy Ihnatko I have decided to do my own version of the Amazon Advent Calendar.
Now don’t expect 1000 word essays from me on why have picked a particular song like Andy does ’cause that boy is a wordsmith and I don’t quite come up to that level. Don’t believe me go check some of his writings at his site http://www.cwob.com I’ll wait.
Ok so your back. The bit of musical data that we’ll be covering is Fett’s Vette by mc chris. Yes it’s rap but don’t let that turn you off, because if your dead set against a genre of music you’ll be stuck in a rut for the rest of your life.
Now the Fett in Fett’s Vette is Boba Fett as in Star Wars and the Vette is that great car a Corvette. So the song is about Boba Fett’s Corvette which he is financing by working for Jabba the Hutt. Yes is a strange mixer of topics to put together to make a song and put the song the musical subgenera of Nerdcore (tho mc chris has resisted calling his music such). Fett’s Vette is the first song that I heard for the artist mc chris and after looking around found more of his work and found his rise to musical fame to pretty interesting. Christopher Brendan Ward IV aka mc chris start out as a production assistant working for Williams Street Studios’ on such shows as Aqua Teen Hunger Force (ATHF) and SeaLab 2021. Because being a PA is kind of the grunt job of the TV business and Williams Street was a bit of a shoe string operation when it first started up mc chris would do other things on the productions as well. He has a guest voice roles in several ATHF episodes as MC Pee Pants, and a recurring role in Sealab 2021 as Hesh. He even appeared as himself in one episode of Sealab 2021 when most of crew followed him around while he was on tour.
Recently mc chris’ music has been showing up in TV and Movies. ‘Hoodie Ninja’ was used in a couple of Honda commercials and Fette’s Vett was in the sound track to Zack And Miri Make A Porno.
