My Amazon Advent Calendar, Day 2: Operation Ganymede by Ganymede

operationganymede.jpg

Ok for day two of the Advent Calendar I have Operation Ganymede off the album Operation Ganymede by the American electropop duo Ganymede. Now that’s a lot of Ganymede’s in one sentence. The Ganymede in question here is the moon of Jupiter discovered in 1610 by that great man of science Galileo Galilei who so pissed off the Catholic church in 1633 that they found him “vehemently suspect of heresy” and put him under house arrest for the rest of his life. But that neither here nor there so on to the music.

Operation Ganymede is a concept album telling the story of a joint US and Russian mission to Jupiter. The music has a retro feel using vintage synths and drum machines. The official web site for the album (http://ganymede.cohaagen.com/operationganymede/index.php) even uses low res gif graphics in imitation of an old video game. The site even includes fake bios of two of the Operation Ganymede mission specialist who are in reality Band members Patrick Runkle and David Friede.

Here’s the link to “Operation Ganymede” from Amazon. Anything you buy after clicking this link results in a small kickback to me from Amazon. All proceeds will be used to buy Christmas presents for my family. Ahh who am I kidding I’ll most likely use it to buy books for myself. But don’t worry I’ll still buy Christmas presents for my family.
