So were going to lighting thing up a bit here on Day 3 of My Amazon Advent Calendar with Dr. Bombay.
Now for those of you who have watched Bewitched this not the globe trotting warlock “witch doctor” played by Bernard Fox. This Dr Bombay is one of the many aliases of Swedish-Danish eurodance artist Jonny Jakosen aka Johnny Moonshine aka Dr. MacDoo aka Carlito. Yep that’s a lot of aliases.
Jonny Jakosen started out as the faux-country/pop singer novelette act Johnny Moonshine and ended up recording one album titled “Johnny Moonshine & The Troubled Water Band” which really didn’t to that well so he went looking for a more ‘annoying’ sound and picked eurodance and created Dr. Bombay.
His second single as Dr. B was Calcutta aka Taxi, Taxi, Taxi off the Album Rice and Curry. Calcuttai sung from the perspective of an half blind Indian man who is inspired by his ‘rich’ uncle and goes to Caluttai to become a taxi driver, despite his impaired vision and lack of hack license. The song end up being a major hit and topped the music charts at #1 in Sweden and #2 in Norway.
After Dr. Bombay Jonny tried to recreate the success with Dr. MacDoo a faux-Scottish character with mixed results. Then he moved on to create the faux-Mexican Carlito who oddly enough has become a bit of a cult-hit in Japan.
Here’s the link to “Calcuttai (Taxi Taxi Taxi)” from Amazon. Anything you buy after clicking this link results in a small kickback to me from Amazon. All proceeds will be used to buy Christmas presents for my family. Ahh who am I kidding I’ll most likely use it to buy books for myself. But don’t worry I’ll still buy Christmas presents for my family.
